India is the largest milk producer and the second largest producer of fruits and vegetables in the world but roughly accounts for wastage worth 44,000 crores annually. One of the major causes of food loss and waste in low-income countries is mainly connected to financial, managerial and technical limitations in storage and cooling facilities in difficult climatic conditions. This leads to a negative impact on the farmer as well as the environment. The farmers lose time, energy and money, and undue pressure is put on natural resources and the ecosystem due to pollution through food discards. One helpful solution is to invest in good cooling technologies, but that comes at an exorbitant price. We, at New Leaf, through our affordable cooling systems, act as a link to not only save tons of produce and the environment, but also provide a sense of security for the farmers as they are able to generate more income through better produce.
